Our Island Vacation ... L'Isle Sur La Sorgue

#Waterwheels#SorgueRiver#LeBouchon#Canals#Mistral

Today's adventure took us to the "Islands" well maybe not the islands like you may be thinking!

L' Isle sur la Sorgue is an island city surrounded by the river connected by many little bridges.

It also has many antique dealers and second hand shops, but today we did not do any antiquing.

It is truly a walking city ... up and along the canals, across the bridges enjoying the ducks playing and splashing in the water, strolling the narrow streets while window shopping in some classy boutiques..

If we have time and it is a less windy day, we will go back to do the self guided  "Water Wheels Walking Tour" where we will see (14) fourteen of these mossy covered wheels.

The Sorgue River played an important role to many factories many years ago.  In its hey day there were 62 water wheels on the canals of the Sorgue River, most located close to the factories.

If only we could grow olive trees back home ... their silvery grey colour would be a new dimension in the garden.

Walk this way! What happened here, did someone lose their shoes?

Clever French marketing or "Hansel and Gretel lost in the woods"  ... business situated off a small side street, the shoes make you curious to see where they lead!

Ah ah! A funky artists' boutique ...

The Sorgue River ... crystal clear water with shimmering reflections!

It's that time again ... "Déjeuner".
Lunch at " Le Bouchon" 10 Quai Jean Jaures, 84800 L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, Tel. 0490206744

I asked Monsieur why he got the seat with the best view towards the terrace and River ...
He said "You have the best view ... Moi!"

Today Monsieur and I both chose the same starter ... Scallop and a fresh spring vegetable salad.

Lamb for Monsieur ...

I had the perfectly grilled chicken kebab with the delicious accompanying mashed potatoes, grilled zucchini and garlic carrots.

And of course we had to finish with something sweet ...

After finishing his panna cotta, Monsieur said he could have eaten another of these!
Something else for me to learn to make ... I'll be looking for a recipe soon!

Time for some walking to work off lunch ...

I love how this looks like a painting ... the reflections and light creating magical colours!

The water wheels rolling through the water ...

Our day (Tuesday 26th May) was cut short due to the high winds (50 km plus+ plus+ per hour) blowing from the north, eventhough it was bright, sunny and warm!

I recall Peter Mayle writing that "the Mistral winds can blow the ears off a donkey".

After hearing this Monsieur Honey wondered if that was how Van Gogh lost one of his ears!
