Streetcar Sightseeing Tour ...

#New Orleans#Streetcars#Blindpelican#Emeril'sDelmonico

After our first taste of beignets at Morning Call and tour of the Sculpture Garden, we headed to the bus stop ...  we purchased an all day ticket for $3.00 which allowed us to get on and off the buses and streetcars all day.

What a bargain and easy way to get around.

The day continued to be misty and foggy, so we did our sightseeing from the comforts of the streetcars, first the red "Canal Street" car that took us downtown where we transferred to the green "Charles Street" car.

What a wonderful way to view the historic buildings, interesting architecture, the vibrancy of the various neighbourhoods and see remnants of the Mardi Gras parade.

Again the shutter on my camera was clicking continuously as I was shooting photos from my perch on the streetcar seat ...

A famous restaurant...

The spring flowers are already in blooming ...

Mardi Gras beads dressing the trees lining Charles Street ...

On our return trip we needed a refreshment break ... we discovered an inviting, fun looking bar/restaurant that was new to our friend/ tour guide Laury.

The crawfish looked delicious at the "Blind Pelican" ...  Reason enough to plan a return trip to taste these delictable treats.

Refreshed with a cool drink and some chips, salsa and guacamole it was time to hop back on the streetcars ...

Green (Charles Street) to the Red (Canal Street) back to City Park to get the car for the next part of our tour ...

I hope you enjoyed your "Streetcar Tour"!

Ready or Not ... Grandma Here I Come!

Again, I'm behind in my posting ... this weekend we welcomed the newest addition to our family.

Funny thing on our tour of the French Quarter ... I saw this display in a store window, I thought perfect for my announcement when our newest grandson arrived.

I'll be back to finish our New Orleans "Postcards" soon.

Battle of the Beignets!

Our friend / tour guide thought a "Beignet Contest" would be a fun part of our two-day New Orleans' itinerary.

"Beignets" were introduced to New Orleans by the French-Creole colonists during the 18th century.

What is a beignet?

Similar to doughnuts and fritters, they are deep-fried square pieces of dough made fresh, served hot either tossed, sprinkled or smothered in powdered sugar.

Having a sweet tooth and being a bit of a travel foodie, I had no objections to this "Tasty" idea!

Day one we headed to City Park for our first taste test at the "Morning Call" Cafe.

We ordered a plate of beignets (they come three to an order) and Cafe au laits.

With restraint we shared the beignets and the tasting began.

Day two we decided to have beignets and Cafe au laits as a dessert treat at the world famous Cafe du Monde.

Our friend Laury was close lipped about her favourite.

At Cafe du Monde, we discussed the differences between the two beignets ...
Texture, crispiness, sweetness and then voted which one we each liked the best.

The votes are in ...
Cafe du Monde 2 /Morning Call 1

Msr. Honey preferred the softer texture and less crispy beignet at the Morning Call, while Laury & myself loved "Cafe du Monde" beignets.

Footnote ... the beignets at Morning Call are served plain with a shaker of powdered sugar so you control how much is added.

Msr. Honey was more partial to this.

Cafe du Monde beignets are covered in the sweet powder when they are served to you.

Nothing says New Orleans to me like "beignets" and "beads".
