A Week at the Beach ...

#saintcyprienplage#mediterranean#beachbums#frenchmarkets#cafes#laterrasse#fishingport#sailboats

We've been enjoying our time at the seaside taking in the local market, walks along the beach promenade, quai /port , a little daily shopping at the neighbourhood shops for fresh bread, fruit and vegetables for our meals plus just some people watching from our favorite seats at the cafés ... and of course just the changing view from our apartment overlooking the Mediterranean.

This morning's coffee ...

This morning's sunrise ...

My "French" sailor ...

I have to eat one of these before we leave this area ... They are so yummy, I remember them from our time in Collioure ... a Catalan pastry, they remind of Portuguese elephant ears!
Monsieur Honey keeps saying "No, it will bring on a severe sugar attack!" ...
Isn't that what vacations are all about?

Oh yes please some "tomates anciennes" ... We will have to see if we can grow some of these at home!

Look at the size of this one ... I think the seller said it cost €6.90!

Oh these melons were so sweet and juicy ....

A traditional Catalan fish dish .... morue (COD) ...

I know more markets ... but I could go to the market everyday and buy fresh for each day's meals ...it is such a wonderful experience!

Pretty tables ready for the customers ... the quai is lined with many restaurants to choose from, providing various options of menus ... fresh catch of the day, Catalan specialities, pizza, etc.

Where does the time go?  We have already been here a week and we will be back on the road Saturday morning for the final few days of this year's adventure.

Our time here has been broken up with a few road trips to nearby villages and towns with my camera working overtime.

I'll be sharing stories and postcards about our road trips soon.

We are planning a lazy, easy day today ... maybe I'll be able to catch up on editing/culling my photos and find time plus a wifi connection to do a couple of posts.

Mission accomplished for today ...
Not too much of anything, lunch at our local café plus just a wander around the port and tonight a beautiful night enjoying some "Rosé" at "La Terrasse".

I'll be back soon with more postcards ...
Hope you've enjoyed your week at the beach, we did!

In the Land of No WiFi!

Bonjour Blog ...

I'm having trouble writing/ posting due to the lack of wifi / internet connection.

I've been trying to write offline and posting later but that is causing me more problems ... photos won't load and my font keeps changing.

So for now my posts will be intermittent at best.

À bientot!

Postcard from L'Escala ...

6th September 2016

"Monsieur Honey" again became "Señor Honey" today as we crossed the border from France to Spain.

Our New Zealand friends had recommended / suggested a visit to the Spanish town of L'Escala and if possible lunch at "La Gruta" (the Grotto / the cave).

Our only mission today was to enjoy a leisurely lunch on the coast in Spain ... no tourist attractions on the to do list.

Let's just enjoy the ambiance of this lovely town!

The scenery was very much similar to that of Tossa de Mar, beautiful blue skies and Mediterranean
Waters!

Won't go into the details of our travels here ...  but all I can say is I'm ready to trade in our "Molly the GPS" after today.

I had made a reservation at La Gruta for 12:30pm ... we were quite concerned that we would not make it on time. Molly diverted us from the Auto route to a secondary road thru Le Perthus, absolutely bottle-necked (bouchon) ... the driving time was much longer than anticipated!

We did arrive in time with a half hour to spare ... perfect for a stroll along the waterfront before lunch.

Some frosty delicious "vin rosé" or in Spain  "rosada" ...

The food and service was excellent and worthy of a "Michelin" star ...
On Trip Advisor rated as the no.1 out of 139 in L'Escala.

My starter above ... Swiss chard "clafoutis", pine nuts, tomatoes confit & Iberian ham ...oh So good!

And Msr. Honey chose the grilled vegetables, buffalo mozzarella and anchovy fillet ...
yes, Mikey he had the sardines and loved it!

Pollock loin with saffron aioli ... For me.

Leg of lamb skewers with chimichurri for Monsieur ...

Apricot crumble ... so yummy!

Chocolate fondant  with light banana "crème" .'' Monsieur Honey is editing.

Ps. I've posted the menu so you can see what we've had and I'm sure we will be creating these delectable (darn tasty bites) in the future...

Our day ended with aperos at Bar Pablo as the sun was setting ...
