Guard or Entrance?

The purpose of gates...to guard or permit entry?

The size and grace of these gates would suggest an 18th Century Chateau resided behind them.
However, only a modest brick house sits at the top of the hill.

The first two photos are of the same gate. First one shown taken our last week in Gourdon (May), second one was taken in March not long after we first arrived.

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary ...How does your Garden Grow?

With a couple weeks of warm weather  in late March, then a month full of rain in April and plenty of  sunshine in May!

Geraniums - oh so French!

The pictures below are of the garden at 'Le Petit Gite" - 5 rue Marsis, Gourdon taken in March, so dull and drab.

Here's "Honey" working in the garden.

Here's photos of the garden in May.

The above garden seems to grow with no attention by it's owner.

The flowers and gardens at this beautiful home are tended to daily by it's owner, the neighbour's around the corner from the Petit Gite.

Cowslips - a flower from Graeme's youth in England.

The poppies grow wild wherever they like.

And of course the beautiful wisterias and yes our orphan "Wisteria"plant survived the Canadian winter and is growing prolificly on our balcony...

Guard Dog

This so much looks like a Postcard you can buy in the stores in France; the photo of the dog was taken one day when we were doing a Sunday drive in the countryside.
