Un pied devant l'autre

One foot in front of the other...

...  that is what it will take to complete our walk to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

We (Madame M and I) each have a personal goal for our own reasons to walk parts of the Pilgramage route.
We are in the researching stages of when, where and what part of the trail we will complete...and there is the training.

Madame M loves to walk or you could say she maybe even be a bit obsessed with walking and has encouraged me to join her during our stay in France.

Our walks (which are usually daily, unless Monsieur Honey and I have something planned)) vary in length from 8 to 12 kilometers over some undulating terrain.

We usually know where we are and only on a couple of occasions have we felt "Lost"... but we know all roads lead to Dégagnac.

This post is a compilation of "Postcards" from various walks over the past week...

    Le Frau ... The forest

We usually don't follow the many guide books available at the local Tourist offices suggesting various walks in the area.
This past week, we decided to follow one called "Circuit des Églises" which started in Dégagnac and directed us to Rampoux and ended in Lavercantiere.

The route directed us through some rugged terrain ...

And walking allows us to see and observe much more than if we were using other modes of transportation.

    Church in Dégagnac

    Church doors in Rampoux

    Church in Lavercantiere

Walking brings you closer to nature ...
here we found Kermit the Frog croaking!

   Lavender...

    Wild orchids...

My friend "Madame M" may we catch a train back home?

The Sound of Music in a French Village!

There are so many sounds in a French village.

The many birds whistling in harmony, and the cuckoo birds who seem to keep time with the Church bells.

Last evening Monsieur Honey was whistling with the local feathered friends...and receiving return calls.

The clip clop of the horses and ponies riding by the cottage...today, it was a thundering sound as two of the horses were loose and on the run.

On Thursday and Sunday mornings the horn of the visiting butcher's truck announcing his arrival in the square.

It sounds like a French horn...no pun intended..actually, it is a bit like the sound of French police car sirens.

And sometimes there is a loud gunshot...very near...perhaps the "chasse".

The neighbouring horses naying as if to say "Bonjour" when we walk out to the car...Monsieur Honey has introduced himself by presenting the single horse with some carrots. This horse could be "Mr. Ed".

And of course, once in awhile even if you can't see them you will hear the thundering roar of jet powered French Airforce training airplanes flying low overhead, usually two... one chasing the other.

Whirlwind Wednesday

After being "Night Owls" Tuesday evening at a dinner for ten at our French Connection friends in Prayssac, we awoke Wednesday morning to some lovely views.
"Thank you French Connection for a lovely evening!"

Early morning views over the vineyards in Prayssac from our "French Connection" friends' home.

A visit to other friends in Belaye...a tour of the grounds, including the potager (vegetable garden)of which Mdme. I is quite proud and so she should be...it will provide a bountiful cornucopia of vegetables and herbs.
"Thank you for your hospitality Mdme. I and Msr. A."...the "Dutch Connection".

We were introduced to the new chickens who are receiving much attention and love as they had recently presented their owners with the first "golden eggs"....at least the white and brown hens.

Back home at "Beaucaillou" for a late lunch, followed by some container gardening.

Tonight aperitifs and lively conversation on the terrace at Domaine Gaury...
"thank you Kathleen and Yves."

Back to Dégagnac for dinner... Pizza or reservations at Les Acacias...that's easy, off to dinner at our new friends ... thank you Madame M and Msr. Guy...the "Belgian Connection".

                                                  It was a busy day!

Domaine Gaury

The owners, Yves and Kathleen Mestdagh- Van Waeleghem of Domaine Gaury are ready to welcome you to their estate located in the rural area of the Lot Valley, near Dégagnac 46340.

Situated in a very peaceful and tranquil area, but close enough to many tourist attractions.

The gîtes/ cottages all have their own outside terrace and barbecue.

The property has a playground to keep the little ones occupied, a heated swimming pool, hot tub, plenty of space and lounging chaises for sunbathing on the pool decks and terraces surrounding the pool.

The property is beautifully landscaped.

I was not able to take photos of the interiors of the gîtes as they are all presently occupied.

For detailed information on the gîtes, location, prices and photos of the interiors of the cottages...please visit the website or their Facebook page...

At the present time, many projects are underway getting ready for the busy summer season ...with the help of some volunteers from Canada, USA, and Russia ...yesterday, a new stone wall garden was being constructed that will be planted with lavender, other projects in the works was gardening, painting, and oiling of the outdoor teak furniture.
The new deck attached to the swimming pool had just been completed.

This enchanting property looks ideal for a holiday stay in the Lot Valley.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a tour.
